Read moreOne thing nearly all Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort guests have in common is a thirst for adventure. Our guests truly want to experience Dominica with all of their senses—to see, feel, taste, hear, smell something new, exciting, or different from their day-to-day life.
Fortunately, during your stay here, you won’t have to venture far to quench that thirst—unless a long trek is the adventure you’re looking for, of course! Below, discover some of our guests’ favorite ways to embrace their adventurous side on the Nature Island.
1. Embark on a canyoning excursion.
Canyoning—also known as canyoneering or waterfall rappelling—is often one of the highlights of a guest’s stay with us. This activity serves as a full-body workout, guided sightseeing tour, and once-in-a-lifetime fun. Our concierge will be happy to arrange an adventure with every detail accounted for: we’ll provide the gear, transport you to the canyons, and guide you safely through the rock structures and waterfalls.
2. Go on a night dive.
Scuba diving, on its own, is a breathtaking way to explore the island and get up close and personal with diverse marine life. A night dive—led by experienced dive instructors—adds an extra thrill to your deep sea adventure. Equipped with UV lights to guide you, you’ll get to see reef animals that only come out at night and experience a truly unique perspective.
3. Try some fresh, local fare.
Your taste buds deserve a break from the norm during your stay. Challenge yourself to try something you’ve never thought to try—whether that be a tropical fruit, a locally caught fish prepared in a new-to-you way, or a dish you’ve never heard of before.
4. Set sail on a whale watching tour.
With two-thirds of all known whale species residing in or visiting the surrounding waters each year, Dominica is one of the best places in the world to go whale watching. The majestic and gentle sperm whale is a frequent spot, while other species like pilot or humpback whales may be seen at different times of year as well.
5. Let your feet guide you.
While we can arrange various guided activities and tours, one of the best ways to explore the island is to let yourself wander, which is sure to lead to unexpected adventure. Head toward the rainforest, wander through the city streets of Roseau, or check out some snorkeling gear and choose a spot in the water that calls to you. The possibilities are endless.
