SheKnows Recognizes Fort Young Hotel as a Top Eco Resort

The island of Dominica evokes a tangible sense of prowess, strength and vitality. Replete with lush rainforests, miles of rivers and uninhibited coastlines, the Nature Island has proven to fulfill its epithet time and time again. Here, the land remains pure. Captivating in its grandiosity and pacifying in its beauty, Dominica is a land magically unchanged. Yet, its natural eternality is what will change the course of our planet; and, on January 15, Fort Young Hotel will reaffirm the island’s audacity with its reopening—mere months after Hurricane Maria.

SheKnows, an acclaimed women’s lifestyle publication, has shed light on Fort Young Hotel’s swift revival and forthcoming sustainable initiatives. While the hurricane certainly left its mark on the island, writer Amelia Edelman notes the hotel’s ability to take this setback as an opportunity to move forward in a direction that will further protect and enhance the island’s natural beauty—just as Fort Young was built to do.

As the property prepares for its reopening, Fort Young Hotel has already set into motion its use of biodegradable food containers and detergents while also sourcing local products from Roseau’s markets and farmers. And, in the wake of the hurricane, the hotel is working to donate all leftover food to those left homeless. Additionally, Edelman emphasizes an eco-initiative that “may seem odd but is actually essential”: the hunting of invasive lionfish to benefit the marine ecosystem. So, as Fort Young Hotel lays the groundwork for a strengthened Dominica, those who visit will be a part of a globally crucial sustainable practice.
