A Q&A With General Manager Dinesh Kissoon: How All-Inclusive, Island-Included Enhances Guests’ Experiences

We sat down with Fort Young Hotel’s General Manager, Dinesh Kissoon to discuss how he believes the new All-Inclusive, Island-Included offering will not only enhance guests’ experiences on the island, but also leave them with a better understanding of Dominican culture, values and appreciation for the island. Continue reading as Dinesh takes us through his favorite parts of the All-Inclusive offering and even shares some of the must do experiences while on the island.

1. Why did Fort Young decide to create an All-Inclusive offering?

Location, Location, Location! Fort Young is the gateway to the best adventures of what Dominica has to offer.  The hotel has always been seen to be an innovative leader in the industry and the pandemic has pushed us to reset and re-imagine our hotel business model and to uncover new opportunities by shifting our focus more towards leisure with an unique concept “All-Inclusive, Island Included” – new to the island and to the Caribbean.

2. Fort Young will be Dominica’s first-ever, All-Inclusive offering. What does that mean for the Nature Island? What does that mean for Fort Young?

With Dominica’s broadening appeal, travelers who are seeking to experience the Nature Island will increase beyond the traditional niche adventurer and backpacker and, with that, Fort Young’s new positioning will be very compelling to this new and evolving visitor profile. The All-Inclusive, Island-Included offering is designed for a sustainable economic contribution. The concept is an unusual take on All-Inclusive, as it challenges the traditional idea of keeping guests on the property. Instead, we are positioning Fort Young hotel as a gateway for guests to experience the land, sea and city adventures of Dominica.

3. How do you see the new All-Inclusive package changing guest experience at Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort?

At Fort Young, we strive to continue to elevate our authentic guest experience. From our elegantly refurbished 40-oceanfront rooms to our innovative approach to enhancing the guest experience with exciting local and internationally-fused food & beverage offerings, on-property unlimited experiences, including and not limited to shore diving, snorkeling, fitness, wellness, are all seamlessly integrated into our concept.

4. What would a typical day of an all inclusive guest look like?

Waking up to the sound of the ocean waves to your unlimited gourmet food & house beverages, the guest will join the daily scheduled island adventure experience for 3-4 hours; from hikes to waterfalls and stopping for a local rum tasting or a fresh Kubuli on the way back. In the afternoon, revitalize and recharge your spirits with the signature 60-minutes massage included in the offering before sipping a cocktail by the pool and gazing at the spectacular sunset.

5. What are a few experiences you think guests cannot miss while at Fort Young?

The scheduled daily island adventures are designed to capture the best experiences of the island escape. Titou Gorge is a personal favourite and is one of the most unique marvels of the island not to be missed. This special attraction was formed by volcanic lava which cooled and split open, leaving this natural cave. Swim up the ‘throat’ of a cave to a gushing waterfall located inside the gorge.

6. Do you think this new island included offering will allow the guests to be more involved in the local Dominica culture?

The All-Inclusive, Island-Included offering is designed to ensure every guest itinerary includes a adventure each and every day, and an authentic experience such as a stop at a local bar or rum shop for a little treat; or a local art and craft offering, a cultural experience to experience Dominica as a local.

7. How will the all-inclusive package cater to different guests’ needs and likes?

The concept and packages are designed and curated in a way to satisfy every guest’s needs and preferences from elegant oceanfront rooms to relaxation to delectable gourmet food and unlimited beverages to wellness, hiking, waterfalls, beach and so much more. The packages also allow flexibility to guests to add-on any other desired excursions at a minimal fee. Our food menus cater for all dietary restrictions and allergies.

8. How do you think staying on the island for a minimum of 5 full days will benefit guests?

From the jaw dropping land and seascapes to the rainforest, the Caribbean creole culture, trekking, hiking, waterfalls, hot springs, thermal spas, sperm whales and other exciting adventures, guests may not want to leave. Five days are a minimum number of days for a guest to really enjoy Dominica and take wonderful memories back home.
