Experiencing Dominica With All Five Senses

When traveling to a remote destination that may be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for you, you owe it to yourself to make it a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. And that type of adventure comes from experiencing new sights, sounds, smells—truly indulging all of your senses. Here’s how to make a trip to Dominica, by way of Fort Young Hotel, one such experience.

1. See

No matter where you are on the Nature Island, you’ll see something new and wonderful. You might be 200 feet above one of Dominica’s 12 waterfalls, watching the rushing water below your feet. Or deep underground, diving and climbing your way through caves, seeing the world from a new perspective. Or you might just be on the deck of your oceanfront suite, gazing off into one of the most striking and unobstructed sunsets you’ve ever seen.

2. Hear

For city dwellers, what you don’t hear while on vacation may be just as powerful as what you do hear. Instead of bustling streets that never sleep, your ears will be treated to the sounds of nature—wind blowing through trees as tall as skyscrapers, the ocean as it rushes toward the sand and retreats, the calls of more than 170 species of birds (many of which are seldom found outside the Caribbean).

3. Smell

Fresh air, the salty sea, breakfast brought to your room as you gently wake in the morning. The subtle waft of essential oils as you melt into the massage table in the open air. Fresh fruits and seafood and flowers endlessly available. These are the smells of paradise.

4 . Taste

You’ll find no shortage of delicious restaurants on Dominica where you can try local Caribbean cuisine, as well as meals influenced by flavors from around the world. Located right here at Fort Young Hotel, The Palisades Restaurant is not to be missed. Join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner and feast on locally caught Lionfish Ceviche and BBQ Jerk Octopus. For dessert, savor every bite of Tamarind Cheesecake with chantilly guava cream and fresh fruit.

5. Touch

Feel the cool sand between your toes—a sensation that never gets old—as you lean back in a lounge chair. Feel the water envelop each limb as you jump in or just get your toes wet. Feel the slippery, tight feeling of wetsuit, the slight pinch of a snorkel mask, the way your breathing changes underwater. And the beach is only the beginning of your sensational adventure.
